The best things are free
Crossing Charles Bridge, watching the astronomical clock strike the hour and walking through the castle courtyards all cost nothing. For the view without the entry fee, climb Petřín Hill at sunset.
Eat like a local
Skip the restaurants around Old Town Square and walk ten minutes to Vinohrady or Karlín. Look for a daily lunch menu, where soup and a main course often cost less than a coffee in the tourist zone.
Getting around
A 72-hour public transport pass covers trams, metro and the funicular. Tram 22 runs past many of the main sights, which makes it a sightseeing tour for the price of a ticket.
Good to know
- The Czech Republic uses the koruna (CZK), so decline currency conversion at card terminals.
- Tap water is safe and free; ask for it in restaurants.
- Visit in late autumn for lower hotel prices and misty, atmospheric streets.
