Flying with your dog or cat: everything you need to know

Carriers, paperwork and how to keep your four-legged travel buddy calm on board.

Can my pet fly in the cabin?

Dogs and cats weighing up to 8 kg including their carrier can travel in the cabin on most AeroVista routes. The carrier must be soft-sided, leak-proof and fit under the seat in front of you.

Paperwork

Within the EU, your pet needs a microchip, a valid rabies vaccination and an EU pet passport. Some destinations, including Ireland, have extra requirements such as tapeworm treatment, so check well before you travel.

On the day

Give your pet a light meal four hours before the flight and a good walk before you head to the airport. Put a worn T-shirt in the carrier; a familiar scent helps a lot. Pets travelling in the cabin must check in at the airport desk rather than online.

Good to know

  • Add your pet in Manage Booking early. Spaces per flight are limited.
  • Get your pet used to the carrier for a few weeks before the trip.
  • Avoid sedatives unless your vet specifically recommends them.
