Plan outfits, not items
Pick a colour palette of two or three neutrals plus one accent colour. Every top should go with every bottom. Seven days rarely needs more than four tops, two bottoms and one layer.
Roll, then compress
Rolling soft clothes saves space and reduces creases. Packing cubes keep things organised and squeeze out extra air. Put shoes in first, along the bottom of the bag, and stuff socks inside them.
Wear the heavy things
Your jacket, your boots and your thickest jumper weigh nothing in your bag if you're wearing them. Coat pockets are a good place for a charger and a paperback.
Liquids: decant or go solid
Liquids must be in containers of 100 ml or less, all in a single clear one-litre bag. Solid shampoo bars, toothpaste tablets and stick sunscreen get around the limit entirely.
